QUANTUM TRILOGY – On Art, Body and Nature

Between 2023 and 2025, media artist Robi Voigt and data scientist Tobias Wursthorn developed the QUANTUM TRILOGY, a series of immersive installations exploring the relationship between artificial intelligence, perception, and three fundamental fields of human experience: art, body, and nature.

Drawing on archives, machine learning systems, language models, and spatial installation, the trilogy investigates how images are generated, interpreted, and transformed. Rather than using AI to reproduce reality, the works employ artificial intelligence as a speculative tool that reveals hidden structures, creates unexpected connections, and opens new perspectives on the world around us.

Each installation focuses on a different domain. Together they form a larger investigation into how technology influences perception and how images shape our understanding of ourselves and our environment.

ART

QUANTUM DREAMS (2023)

QUANTUM DREAMS explores the field of art through a large-scale immersive installation based on the complete oeuvre of a Swiss painter. Trained on thousands of artworks, AI-generated image systems create continuously transforming visual landscapes that move between memory, imagination, and abstraction.

The installation asks how artistic styles can be translated into machine learning systems and what remains of artistic authorship when images begin to dream on their own.

BODY

QUANTUM THEATRE (2024)

QUANTUM THEATRE investigates the human body, performance, and theatrical representation. Drawing on actors, stage productions, reviews, dialogues, and performance archives, AI systems generate speculative theatrical realities where identities, spaces, and narratives continuously transform.

The work explores the body as a site of perception and asks how technology changes the way we perform, observe, and imagine ourselves.

NATURE

QUANTUM NATURE (2025)

Developed in collaboration with botanists and museum researchers, QUANTUM NATURE is based on a historical herbarium collection containing thousands of preserved plant specimens. AI-generated flora, environmental imagery, and language-based interpretations merge into an immersive reflection on ecological change, biodiversity loss, and the future relationship between technology and nature.

The installation explores how scientific archives can become living image systems and how technology might reveal new ways of seeing environmental transformation.
